Roy Benson AS-201 Eb Alto Saxophone for Children – Child-Friendly Design with a Full Saxophone Sound

The Roy Benson AS-201 Eb Alto Saxophone was developed specifically for children who want to start playing the saxophone. Thanks to a child-friendly design—particularly in the S-bend and the mechanism—young musicians are able to comfortably enter the world of the saxophone. And there’s no need to compromise on sound: the characteristic, full alto saxophone sound is fully preserved. Weighing only about 2.5 kg and featuring an ergonomic design, this model is ideal for small hands and budding talents.

Roy Benson – Practical Wind Instruments for Beginners and Students

Roy Benson is known for well-designed wind instruments with a solid sound, reliable craftsmanship, and an excellent value for the price. In close collaboration with music educators and instrument makers, models such as the AS-201 are developed, specifically tailored to the needs of young students. The goal: to provide children with a playful, positive musical experience—with an instrument that motivates them rather than overwhelming them.

Technical Details of the Roy Benson AS-201 Eb Alto Saxophone

The AS-201 is an E-flat alto saxophone designed specifically for children’s smaller hands and shorter arm lengths. The adapted key action ensures that all keys are easily reachable even with small fingers—without excessive stretching or cramping. Particularly noteworthy is the modified S-bend shape, which reduces the distance between the mouthpiece and the body. This allows the instrument to be played in a more natural, upright posture—a crucial prerequisite for ergonomic and long-term healthy music-making.

The body and keys are made of brass and are known for their balanced response and warm tone. The lacquered finish protects the instrument from external influences while also providing a glossy, classic look. The integrated H/B rocker makes playing fast passages easier and promotes fluid fingering—an important detail that also supports musical progress in children.

Weighing only about 2.5 kg, the Roy Benson AS-201 is one of the lightest full-size saxophones on the market. This makes it easy for even younger children to hold and play—with or without a carrying strap. The instrument comes in a lightweight rectangular case with a backpack set, making it especially convenient to transport to lessons, rehearsals, or home. Thanks to the padded shoulder straps, the child can carry the case independently and comfortably, without straining their back.

Why the Roy Benson AS-201 Is the Perfect Choice for Young Beginners

The Roy Benson AS-201 is far more than just a beginner’s instrument—it’s a child-friendly learning tool specifically designed to meet the needs of young musicians. Its compact size, light weight, and ergonomic S-bend shape make playing easier, more comfortable, and healthier. At the same time, the sound quality remains impressive—warm, resonant, and rich in timbre. This not only makes practicing more fun but also fosters long-term motivation.

Teachers and music schools value this model for its well-thought-out design, solid intonation, and sturdy construction. Parents benefit from a reliable instrument that fosters their child’s musical growth—all at a fair price. For elementary school-aged children or those aged 7 and up, the AS-201 offers the ideal introduction to the world of woodwind instruments.
